Just Because – Sadie Jean

When it comes to navigating heartbreak, there is no easy fix. Sadie Jean, an artist from Orange County, California, does an impeccable job of capturing the wrestling that we often do when facing these situations in her new song, “Just Because.”

Sadie has described this song as articulating “the space between holding on and letting go,” and it couldn’t be more accurate.

Just because I almost called; don’t mean I wish I had

I think there is something so important about highlighting the struggle of letting go of someone, allowing there to be a gray area where you figure out that you no longer love the person. In order to keep from constantly living your past with them, you have to disconnect them from the wonderful moments you had together.

Sadie captures a feeling that sometimes we are ashamed to acknowledge, in her lyrics, which clearly depict this moment in time. Knowing something in your head that has not fully made it through to your heart. Dealing with the anger or the pain and not allowing the things you miss to overshadow how they may have mistreated you.

Just because you’re sorry now, it doesn’t mean I’ve healed from letting you take almost all of me, until you had enough

Looking back it only means you hurt me, you hurt me just because.

For an artist who has only been in the scene since 2021, with a debut single entitled “WYD Now?” Sadie has amassed an impressive 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with some help from a viral TikTok or two, but her longevity as an artist seems set in stone. As long as she continues to write genuinely and make space for herself as a growing musician, there is no doubt that she will continue to create meaningful and beautifully concise music. I look forward to hearing what else she puts out and seeing where she decides to take her listeners next.
