Karma’s a Bitch, and Heartbreak “Tastes Like Shit,” According to BIZZY’s Latest Single

More often times than not, there are two sides to ending a relationship: the heartbreaker and the heartbroken. The one who walks away feeling free, triumphant, or even indifferent, and the one left devastated, confused, and downright horrible. Alt-pop artist BIZZY explores the idea of being on both sides in her latest single, “Tastes Like Shit.”

With a looping guitar riff and echoing background vocals, BIZZY opens the song by listing her past lovers, positioning herself as the classic “heartbreaker.” She confesses to rarely loving them back, keeping them around out of boredom, or leaving when they became too much for her. But then, someone enters her life and gives her a taste of her own medicine. Her chorus captures this perfectly,

“Maybe karma isn’t fake like I thought it was / Maybe I should have been more careful when it comes to love / ‘Cause you broke my heart just like I broke theirs / Wish I could say that it wasn’t fair / ‘Cause this is what I get for what I did / I got a taste of my own medicine / And it tastes like shit”

For the remainder of the song, BIZZY ruefully expresses her regrets for her past actions, pleading to undo everything she’s done as the weight of heartbreak becomes unbearable. The production quality of “Tastes Like Shit” is outstanding, transforming this song about heartbreak into something catchy and anthemic. Gritty and full of energy, this track leans on electric guitar riffs and bold, punchy drums, perfectly complementing BIZZY’s raw, piercing vocals.

I find “Tastes Like Shit” to be a very unique and honest perspective on breakups. They are almost always complex, messy, and difficult to navigate through. It is a refreshing reflection of feeling remorse and regret, but not in ways you would typically expect. This isn’t an exploration of heartbreak in terms of “what could I have done to save this?” or lamenting on what was or what could have been; rather, BIZZY has finally found herself in the shoes or her past lovers that she treated poorly, and now that she is on the receiving end, she knows how horrible heartbreak really feels. “Tastes Like Shit” is a very catchy and promising song from BIZZY, and I’m looking forward to seeing more fun and unique perspectives in her future music.
