Not going to lie, June has been a doozy for me. The entire month flew by, and the heat in New Orleans has been relentless.. Although most people get the winter blues, I tend to feel a bit more down during the summer. Never fret, however, because the music I have had in my rotation has quite literally been the only thing that has been keeping me sane lately. This playlist full of upbeat bops (aside from perhaps one or two songs…) that keep the cheery, carefree summer spirit alive. Here are some of my current favorites:
the girl, so confusing version with Lorde – charli xcx
First of all…speechless. Second of all, I already was going to have a hard time picking even one song off of Brat for this set of monthly favorites, but this takes the cake for all the obvious reasons. These two absolute icons are so vulnerable and self-aware on this club-like dance track that I don’t know if I should dance, cry, or both? Either way, I’m living for this collaboration.
witchy – KAYTRANADA & childish gambino
I will argue that no summer playlist is complete without KAYTRANADA. TIMELESS is yet another phenomenal album that was released this month, but “Witchy” was definitely an immediate favorite. Must I mention that this is yet another killer collaboration? I am always a sucker for Childish Gambino, so hearing his voice backed by a KAYTRANADA beat is heaven to me. This is a windows down in the car, 3 minutes and 47 seconds of head-bopping and smiling kind of song.
hello, hello, hello remix – remi wolf, polo & pan
I’m not sure how this song flew under my radar for so long, but I am so thankful for coming across it randomly one day while it was playing at my workplace. Remi Wolf and Polo & Pan independently make such fun and carefree, vibey music, so Polo & Pan remixing this song just makes sense. It’s choppy, funky, and definitely has a beach vibe to it. I am yearning for a beach day in the near future so I can properly jam out to this song.
femininomenon – chappell roan
I am incredibly embarrassed to admit that I am very, very late to joining the Chappell Roan train. I have been familiar with her music for a little over a year now, but about two months ago, something finally clicked. Since then, I cannot stop listening to her music, specifically “Femininomenon.” This song is certified to pull me out of any funk the second it plays. I have such a vivid memory of driving down a very busy street blasting this song with my windows down, and it was honestly incredible how many people acknowledged the song. “Femininomenon” is so empowering, so upbeat, and honestly, an entertaining song.
