runo plum – September Artist of the Month

The month of September ushers in the blissful shift from scorching summers to the snug embrace of autumn. This transitional period is one that brings immense comfort–at least in my eyes. That’s precisely why there could not be a more fitting artist to capture the essence of this month than runo plum. runo plum embodies comfort itself. Her gentle and enchanting vocals intertwined with her warm, simplified sound craft an inviting atmosphere filled with serenity.

Take a look at what our team has to say about our artist of the month, runo plum:

runo plum is everything you think of when “comfort” comes to mind. A warm blanket on a cold, rainy day. A hug from someone you love. Your favorite sweater to wear on a chilly, Autumn day. runo plum makes me feel at home, no matter where I find myself listening to her music. Her lyrics tackle heavy subjects such as heartbreak, separation, and independence but are delivered in such a delicate manner that I question if I should actually be sad or not. runo is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter, and I am patiently anticipating her upcoming EP, earlier from ‘20.

runo plum slows your thoughts and wants you to take on the beauty of idleness. When a track comes on, there is a sudden defeat of tension in your body, and all you are faced with is the music. I think our team can agree that runo plum has the ability to soften your eyes and allow you to just be. Her discography is perfect for solo driving. Hushed vocals and dreamy production are amplified by the sound system, like in “yin to yang,” which fills your entire car with warmth. I just know I’ll enjoy listening to her upcoming EP.

Soft melodies and calming vocals are the first things that come to mind when I think of runo plum. In one of her songs, she sings about a doctor’s appointment…or is it a metaphor for something more? She makes the mundane enticing, creating a new outlook on things. All the while, she slowly grabs you with the subtle references to the simple everyday moments. There are so many different moments where listening to runo plum is ideal: watching the clouds go by, looking out the window of a bus, reading on a rainy day, or even on your way to a doctor’s appointment. Just put your headphones on and drift away.

In late 2021, I had the privilege of finding runo plum when I first started writing for publications. I felt a sense of calm and comfort that released all my anxieties while listening. I have been keeping up with her musical career, and I was particularly intrigued by her release, a collaborative EP titled Mountain Songs featuring Phillip Brooks. As a true fan of indie folk music, I must say that the songs included in this EP are some of the best I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Each track is a delightful blend of soulful vocals and masterful instrumentation that transports the listener to a place of pure musical bliss. runo possesses a remarkable ability to skillfully create and capture moments in time that possess a timeless quality. I am eager to listen to her upcoming EP, earlier from ‘20.

It’s almost like I think it, and runo plum sings it. Her lyrics don’t just match how you feel; they take that feeling and paint it as a picture you’ve never thought of before. Contentment is how I would describe the vibe of her songs. Listen while smelling the flowers, taking a walk, reading in your room, drinking some tea, eating dinner, or browsing through a bookstore. All the little things in life. That’s what runo plum’s music echoes.

runo plum’s music feels like sipping a warm oat milk matcha on a misty autumn morning–comforting and peaceful. Her soft instrumentals flow together so beautifully, which is what instantly drew me into her music. runo plum’s lyricism is even more impressive. The line “But maybe you’re right / I’m cold like the wintertime / I’m cruel, and I’m mean or maybe I / Just couldn’t put up a fight” from very overdue goodbye especially stood out to me while listening through her discography. Put runo plum’s music on shuffle on your next late night drive home and feel transported by her ethereal discography.
