Barbie is the soundtrack of the year. From significant artists such as Dua Lipa and Nicki Minaj to prominent indie pop icons such as PinkPatheress and Dominic Fike, the soundtrack is nothing but transformational.
Check out what our staff is saying about the movie’s soundtrack and our favorite characters below:

I was never a Barbie girl growing up. As a matter of fact, I was never a doll girl to begin with. However, between the star-studded cast, phenomenal soundtrack, and impressive marketing, I enjoyed the entire experience. The movie was both hilarious and heart-wrenching at the same time. There’s honestly nothing like crying over getting older backed by Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and then immediately getting slapped by the absolute banger, “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. Also, Ryan Gosling singing Matchbox Twenty’s “Push?” 10/10.
Favorite Tracks: Journey To The Real World, Angel, Dance the Night
Favorite Barbie/Ken: Weird Barbie & Original Ken

This movie and soundtrack made me love the color pink. As someone who was very anti-pink, it’s revolutionary. When I saw the movie I wore a cowboy Barbie shirt ironically but after leaving the theater I felt a sense of pride wearing it. Not only was the movie incredible but the soundtrack fit perfectly in each scene. From “Journey To The Real World” by Tame Impala being played while traveling from Barbieland, to Stereotypical Barbie running away from the corporate men with “Speed Drive” by Charli XCX playing in the background, to the tearjerker scene with Ruth Mattel and Barbie while Billie Eilish’s heartache of a song “What Was I Made For” plays. All of these tracks from the soundtrack can’t help but make Barbie the movie, THAT movie.
Favorite Tracks: Speed Drive, What Was I Made For

I could write essays on why Greta Gerwig is a genius. This movie changed my entire life, and so did the soundtrack. When Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night Away” dropped I was mentally already living in a disco ball. Then we slowly got more of the music, and I was just confused about how all of the different music was going to fit into the movie. As for the execution? Jaw drop is an understatement.
Favorite tracks: Dance the Night Away, Silver Platter, Barbie Dreams
Favorite Barbie/Ken: Weird Barbie/Emma Mackey’s Barbie, Simu Liu Ken

As someone who was obsessed with Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, this movie was everything I could’ve wanted and more. Greta Gerwig is a fantastic writer and director and perfectly encapsulated the feeling of girlhood. Having heard some of Charli XCX’s “Speed Drive” before going into the movie, the song’s unique sound was absolutely perfect to accompany the car chase scene. And Tame Impala’s “Journey to the Real World” playing during the first trip out of Barbie Land? A little on the nose. Billie Eillish’s “What Was I Made For” was an immediate tear-jerker accompanying the penultimate scene of the movie, reflecting on one’s purpose in the world and making me have a bit of an existential crisis. And one cannot forget the phenomenal placement of the Indigo Girls’ “Closer To Fine.” Both the original songs and picks of existing classics made this movie better than it already was.

The Barbie soundtrack in itself is genius, featuring artists including Nicki Minaj, HAIM, Tame Impala, and more. Since I listened to the soundtrack before watching the movie, I was impressed with how seamlessly the music enhanced each scene. I mean, what’s more, perfect than a dance number to Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” or a car chase to Charli XCX’s “Speed Drive”? The Barbie movie is not just for those who played with Barbies growing up, but it truly is for everyone. I will undoubtedly be watching the Barbie movie again soon, and until then, I’ll be playing the soundtrack on repeat.

The Barbie movie soundtrack is just as iconic as the movie itself. The album is just as star-studded as the film, highlighting a diverse group of musicians and weaving through genres with ease. There can’t be a Barbie movie without at least a nod to Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl,” and this album has much more than that. The third track on the album, “Barbie World,” features Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua joining forces to bring one minute and forty-nine seconds of fun. “Hey Blondie” is Dominic Fike’s second prominent movie placement this year (the first being “Mona-Lisa” from Across the Spider-Verse) and the Florida native once again showcases his signature harmonies and adlibs that made me first love his music. Admittedly, I was always more of a Bratz girlie growing up, but this soundtrack might convert me.

As an addict of good soundtracks, this was indeed the best soundtrack for years. Each song was able to mold into each scene in the movie perfectly. Let alone each artist was a Barbie and Ken in their own right. Overall, the fact that each song that was promoted focused on Barbie-labeled artists made it even more special. From Charlie XCX’s “Speed Drive” giving the perfect 2.0 to her song “Vroom Vroom” along with the soulful and angelic “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish. The tracklist was one for the ages, and I cannot wait to continue listening to it for the rest of the year and every pop moment possible.
