I just remember Ryan Beatty posting covers on YouTube and his name was recognizable. After his latest album release, the title track “Ribbons” was popping up on my Spotify. I had no expectations, but was surprised to find a voice of such depth and experience. His vocals and emotions matured as did he. “Casino” is another song that rang familiar while listening to his albums. It is crazy to see the kind of music he produces now, 12 years later. I think his sound reflects his personal musical career quite nicely. You can truly hear the growth of his voice and how he discovered his genre throughout his discography.

The first time I heard Ryan Beatty was while I was at home during Covid. I felt a little behind due to Ryan being around for quite a while before I discovered. In instantly fell in love with Ryan’s album, “Boy In Jeans” and his songs “God In Jeans” and “Haircut.” He creates music that is truly dimensional that provides gutwrenching lyrics with a dazzling production. Each album is a new piece of art that showcases Ryan’s talent as a vocalist. I enjoyed his most recent album with a single such as Bruises off the beach, yet I wish he was able to add in a good upbeat melody to accompany the soundtrack.

I can’t help but close my eyes when I listen to Ryan Beatty. Every word he sings feels like it floats around my head, little music notes dancing around as if I’m in a Disney film. He sings about relationships and life in simple ways that I can’t help but think “how didn’t I think of that?” Evergreen was a song I played over 200 times and everytime feels like the first time listening. His newest album is a testament to how he gets better with each release. He’s tender and lushful with his music and I am grateful for it.

While I did indulge in listening to Ryan Beatty’s covers on Youtube in the early 2010s, it wasn’t until his collaborative efforts with Brockhampton that I truly got into his music. His debut album, Boy in Jeans, blew me away with its captivating melodies, infectious hooks, and vulnerable lyrics. Beatty’s music gracefully revolves around themes of love, self-discovery, and personal growth–almost like reading pages from his personal diary. Though I have a nostalgic fondness for the sound he embodied on his debut album, I consider his evolution across subsequent albums to be highly remarkable, solidifying him as a noteworthy artist to keep an eye on.
