planet song – margot liotta

Margot Liotta, a singer-songwriter, has recently released a new single titled “Planet Song.” The title is quite fitting as it builds on the soft and dreamy sound introduced in her debut EP, No Fun At Parties, released last year.

The song, an acoustic ballad about “blaming the stars,” according to Liotta, makes the listener feel like they are drifting into space. It starts with just Margot’s soft voice and acoustic guitar, with an electric guitar added after the first chorus. The echoed backing vocals in the last chorus, culminating in a stripped-back outro, bring you all the way out, then pull you back down to Earth.

Personally, I enjoy acoustic songs with lyrics that punch you in the gut, and “Planet Song” definitely fits those criteria.

It’ll turn to June again / Before I forget that the bugs bite better / Great god of the sky, air sign / No wonder we’re aligned in the center

The carefully chosen vocabulary in this song evokes deep emotions and prompts the listener to reflect on each line. Depending on the angle they are listening from, you can paint a myriad of different stories just from the chorus alone. This piece has a uniqueness that draws the listener in while also having a familiar and relatable sound that puts you at ease.

This is Liotta’s first single since No Fun At Parties, and I hope to continue seeing her musical world expand with the future music she has been teasing.
