Filipino-Australian music artist grentperez is our latest bedroom pop craze. The 21 year-old singer-songwriter began his career sharing covers and originals on Youtube, encouraged by his brother and sister. He also found inspiration from family karaoke where he found his own style, surrounded by an environment of lively music and hidden talents. His debut single “Cherry Wine” made a global splash in 2021, reaching #1 on the Spotify Viral Chart in Australia, Canada, and Singapore.
Perez’s latest single, “When The Day Is Done” is an ode to childhood with a carefree rhythm and a remark to the warmth that love, home, and family provides. Perez sings a honey-infused melody backed by eclectic layers of R&B, pop, jazz, and funk-soul that makes for an undeniably feel-good song. His subtle adlibs and zesty strings are the cherry on top for a wholesome groove.
The track features sweet nostalgic lyrics like,
“I know that you got me
No matter wherever I go
So when the day is done
I’m coming home to you
When the day is done
I’m coming home to you”
Perez plays on the line “there’s no place like home,” the feeling that you can come home to family when all is said and done. The song celebrates the idea of family and unconditional love.
Like Perez says, it’s one of those track you “clean your house to… or dance, if you dance.”
On the same note of childlike wonder, stay tuned for his upcoming EP, When We Were Younger with unreleased tracks set to release on June 2!
