If you’re not familiar with singer/songwriter Lauren Juzang, now is the time to make yourself acquainted. Originally from Tarzana, California, Juzang is currently attending Syracuse University as a student in the Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries.
Following up her 2022 single, “Yeehoo!,” Juzang is back with the release of a heartbreaking, yet way-too-relatable single, “It’ll Be (Video Game Song).” This single was co-written and produced by her friend and fellow musician, Aidan Spiro, and according to Juzang, will be the last single off of her upcoming sophomore EP, PEEK-A-BOO!.
“It’ll Be (Video Game Song)” details the painstaking process of questioning the state of a romantic relationship. Juzang’s quaint and warm voice utter some of the most poignant lyrics about being conflicted over the ebb and flow of a relationship that may not be worth continuing, singing:
“But I’m conflicted, mixing up my feelings / ‘Cause when I’m with you, I think I might love you / But then I need my space, it’s a craving / Am I going insane? / But then it’s hellish, jealous that I get when you go / Go out downtown and I realize that I’m / Sick of being alone / I want you to come home”
Aside from her irresistible vocals, the track’s instrumentals are an alluring mix of twangy acoustics and spunky electronic synths. The production of this single is extremely impressive–something I would imagine being listed in a soundtrack to a coming-of-age film.
PEEK-A-BOO! is set to be released anytime soon, so keep your eyes peeled. I can assure you that it will definitely be worth your time. In the meantime, take a listen to “It’ll Be (Video Game Song)” here:
