SPACE AGE COUNTRY GIRL – Agnes Hartwich

For fans of Billie Eillish, K.Flay, and Tove Lo, you definitely cannot sleep on Agnes Hartwich. Hailing from Denmark, Hartwich is a self-proclaimed “sad-grunge-tumblr-girl from 2014, but 9 years later,” and she did not miss the mark. She just released her debut album, SPACE AGE COUNTRY GIRL, a 10-track indie rock project with pop and alternative undertones that is a pendulum of emotions.

It would be an understatement to say that SPACE AGE COUNTRY GIRL is an impressive debut album. Hartwich’s album’s content ranges from sensual and boisterous self-confidence to introspective and self-doubting reflections on failing relationships. Her songwriting skills are exceptional, whether she’s bragging, “I’m his cult leader / He’s a golden retriever,” or crooning about her insecurities, “I wish I could disappear / consumed by the fear / that I’m not longer exciting.” To top it off, the production of this project is genuinely incredible, elevating the entire album to another level.

This album has a little bit of everything, and I think listeners will truly devour what she presents us in this project. Hatwich’s voice is bewitching, her voice drawing listeners in like a siren song in track like “Coven Girls” and “Damn Wauw.” She picks up the pace and intensity with more rock-influenced tracks like “What’s in it Babe?,” but then switches to more funky or synth-heavy songs like “Cult Leader.” Yet, she still can manage to reel it in and tug at your heartstrings with acoustic ballads such as “Cold on this island” and “It is what it is.” My two favorite songs are the last two tracks, “Suburbia” and “It’s only getting worse.” Despite them being her more reserved and quieter songs, I think they are a testament to how talented Hartwich truly is.

This is an incredibly promising debut from from Agnes Hartwich, and as far as emerging artists go, she is definitely someone to keep your eye on. You can listen to SPACE AGE COUNTRY GIRL here:
